As a business within the Construction industry, we acknowledge that there is a lot of work to do both individually and as a collective sector to further reduce greenhouse gasses and other emissions into our atmosphere.
With a 40-year legacy under our belt, we have renewed our commitment and focus on new Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) initiatives with the sole purpose of bettering our operations and impact on our surroundings. It’s our #bettereverything commitment – we’re actively working on better designs, better construction methods, and better operating buildings, paired with better ways to repair any negative impacts along the way.
June 5th is World Environment Day – an annual event promoted by the United Nations encouraging worldwide awareness and action to protect our environment. The 2024 campaign focuses on land restoration, desertification and drought resilience under the slogan “Our land. Our future. We are #GenerationRestoration.”
Sustainability is a team effort, and although small, we are proud of our efforts towards restoring the habitat within the Metroplex Wetlands. This event is part of a much larger movement towards greener business practices as part of our Environmental and Sustainability Objectives. These policies, systems and practices are aimed at reducing environmental impacts, improving the way we do things from project to project, and leaving a positive legacy both onsite and off.
We recently partnered with the Bulimba Creek Catchment Coordinating Committee (B4C) for our second planting event. Located around the corner from our Head Office, the event at the Metroplex Wetlands in Murarrie was focused on restoring native vegetation and creating new habitats for birds and other animals, enhancing a valuable wildlife corridor for the local ecosystem. The afternoon included an information session on local invasive weeds currently threatening native plants, a rubbish clean up walk and a spot of bird watching.
